Good afternoon to all friends/walkers/supporters of Walking Glasgow. I was delighted yesterday to present a much-needed cheque to our colleagues at the Glasgow Humane Society at Glasgow Green, at the end of our Clyde Bridges walk.
Their work has , and still is of vital importance to our city and beyond- and I have included some details on them below. A huge thanks, as always, to everyone of you who have donated, via ourselves to both the RNLI and this most admirable group. Kevin
Glasgow Humane Society has been saving lives in and around Glasgow’s waterways since its foundation in 1790.
It is the oldest continuing lifeboat service in the world. The RNLI, currently celebrating their 200th year, was only begun in 1824 !
Alongside Strathclyde Police, the Glasgow Humane Society introduced a GPS system for rescue equipment along the River Clyde. At every lifebelt and rescue ladder position there are signs with an identifying code that a caller can to provide to police, that allows the police command and control system to accurately pinpoint the caller's location.
The Society Officer and boats have been based in Glasgow Green since 1790. Glasgow Humane Soare:
