Another RNLI cheque

Delighted, once again, to hand over a cheque from you guys,at Walking Glasgow, to another brave group of volunteers at RNLI Lerwick.

In case we needed reminding, individuals such as these risk their lives, without thought,or bias. As most of you know, I support this charity, because of an ancestral connection, though I've just discovered a close parallel here in Shetland.

In July 1881,a sudden northerly gale caught the fishing fleet 40 miles from Shetland. 10 boats sank, with 58 men dying, a memorial visited by me at Gloup. In Yell.

Later that same year, on October 14th, a severe European windstorm struck SE Scotland, with the tragic loss of 189 drowned men, mostly from Eyemouth. Today,it is still referred to as 'Black Friday ', at least 6 of my ancestors involved in the village's losses.

So thank you all,for your ongoing support, as we must arm our volunteers against nature's worst. Kevin
