LAURIESTON:

PAST, PRESENT, POSSIBLE.

Eddie Graham WALKING TOUR Hello, my name is Eddie Graham and I was born and raised in Cumberland Street Laurieston Gorbals. I am approaching 74 years of age and I would love to do one last walk through the streets where I was born. It would be great to see TOWIG members join with myself to do a walk and a talk about ALL of Laurieston from Glasgow Bridge/Jamaica Bridge all the way up Bridge Street and continue up Eglinton Street to Eglinton Toll at the Star Bar and then come back down Pollokshaws Road and weave in and out all the in-between streets between Pollokshaws Road and Eglinton Street then continue down Gorbals Street and then weave in and out all the streets once again in Laurieston/Gorbals then come back out again at the old savings bank in Gorbals Street that was saved after being left to become derelict for decades then continue the walk past the newly restored Citizens Theatre to Gorbals Cross then turn left into Norfolk Street until reaching 100 Norfolk Street which is now the Award Winning Restaurant of Namak Mandi and then after stopping for a cuppa tea turn right into South Portland Street then carry on down to to Carlton Place at South Portland Suspension Bridge and then continue walking along Carlton Place past the former Hospice to reach Bridge Street and if possible a visit to Oxford Street and Coburg Street behind the former India Buildings in Bridge Street, now that's a walk that could easily be arranged over a 4 week period on Saturday mornings and obviously we cannot forget Nicholson Street then the last part of this walk could be back along Carlton Place where the famous Star Social Club the Hospice and Trades Council Club were situated and finally cross over the Suspension Bridge and have a wee walk along the Clyde Walkway until we reach the statue of La Pasionara and now that we leave Custom House Quay, we could cross over Glasgow Bridge better known as Jamaica Bridge to many and as we reach Bridge Street and weave in and out of additional streets surrounding Bridge Street, we could stop off at the Laurieston Bar or the Savings Bank Venue in Bridge Street
