Old Glasgow Club - Unveiling Of Blue Plaque Commemorating The Last Service Held in St Enoch Church 100 Years Ago

Hi all,

I'm sharing an email with you, as a Director of the Old Glasgow Club. As follows------

We hope this email finds you safe and well after Storm Eowyn yesterday.

Attached is the timeline plan for the unveiling of the Blue Plaque.

We are hopeful of a good turnout of Old Glasgow Club members and invite you along on Monday 3rd February at 12 noon to mark the unveiling of the Blue Plaque commemorating the last service held in St Enoch Church 100 years ago.

As has previously been said at Club meetings, Old Glasgow Club led a campaign against the demolition of the Church, attempting to preserve at least the Portico and the Steeple, alas, to no avail. The reason given was that the traffic flow in St Enoch’s Square needed to be improved to service buses and the adjacent train station.

The service was organised jointly by the Club and Glasgow Presbytery.

It will be a very short event, with 15 minutes planned for. The Lord Provost (our Honorary President), the Chair of Strathclyde Partnership for Transport and the Moderator of the Presbytery of Glasgow will be in attendance.

It would be appreciated if we could gather 10 mins before 12 o'clock. Thanks.
